POWER PURCHASE AGREEMENTS HEDGING PRICE RISKS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS

Our workshop is designed for developers and independent power producers. It introduces PPAs and shows their functionality as a part of a portfolio of opportunities to decarbonize corporate business cases such as onsite production (e.g. roof-top solar) or utility products (e.g. physical electricity incl. guarantees of origin). You will learn how to structure PPAs with corporate energy buyers. Furthermore, you will learn which obstacles energy buyers need to overcome to mitigate risks arising from long-term PPAs. We will work on real cases, from our transactions in Central Europe, Nordics, and East Europe.

The energy market changed for developers and IPPs since Oct. 2021, when the electricity prices increased tremendously, threatening the liquidity of end consumers. These corporates are also increasingly under pressure to be aligned with sustainability regulations. At the same time, utilities can no longer meet their delivery obligations to their end customers on time or at all. This then leads to contract penalties that burden the liquidity of those companies. E.g., the established market participants "Uniper" and "LEAG" came under enormous pressure.

In this difficult market environment, Power Purchase Agreements offer a unique alternative to hedge its own business case while also contributing to the net zero targets.
